Thiago & Mila

Thiago & Mila are the main characters designed for an online short comic series. This project aimed to alert and educate people about cancer and its prevention, but in a fun, young way, since the main target were teenagers.

Initially, the comics were fortnightly released only on the “Câncer com ciência” Facebook Page—previously called “Acubens, o museu do Câncer”—managed by a group of researchers in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. However, after a bunch of short stories were created, the researchers decided to have a printed version, so they could distribute it in various schools over the country.

These images below are two short stories. The first focuses on the use of preservatives, driving special attention to prevent the cervical cancer caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)—a family of very common viruses that are passed on during sex.
